** PANTHER POWER –
2007**
A Welcome From The Jackson Panthers – Mississippi’s
2004, 2005, And 2006 17 Year Old State AAU Champions
The players, coaches, parents, family,
friends, supporters and administrators of the Jackson
Panther Basketball Team welcome you to our 2007
Basketball season. We thank you for your interest and
support. In our last three basketball campaigns, we
were blessed with back to back to back state
championships in the 17 and under AAU division. In 2004
and 2005 we also won state AAU championships in the 16
and under division. In 2004, our 16 year old team
finished 13th in the nation and our 15 year
old team won the Division II AAU Championship. In 2005
and again in 2006 our 17-year-old team finished with a
record of six wins and two losses in the AAU National
Championship Tournament in Orlando, FL, Wide World of
Sports Arena. We are eagerly looking forward to an
exciting and victorious 2007 season.
Calendar year
2006 was the tenth
anniversary of the Jackson Panthers. Over the past 10
years our teams have excelled beyond our expectations.
We have won 12 state AAU championships in various age
divisions; placed first in countless invitational
tournaments; won two National American Cage Classic
Tournaments; finished high in the Big Time Tournament in
Las Vegas, Nevada; and, placed in the top four in the
AAU Classic on several occasions.
Proudly, virtually
every Panther graduates from high school on time and
over 95 percent of our Alumnae go on to college. Three
former Panthers are currently playing in the NBA,
Maurice Williams (Milwaukee Bucks), Justin Reed
(Minnesota Timberwolves), and Ronnie Brewer (Utah
Jazz). Former Panther players are currently attending
colleges and universities in Mississippi, Alabama,
Louisiana, Arkansas, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas
and California. Terry Martin (LSU), Andrea Stephens (USM),
Jeremy Wise (USM) and Cyruss McGowan (University of
Arkansas) are just a few of our players currently
playing collegiate basketball.
Every Panther player is an important member of
his respective high school or junior high team.
Academically, every Panther has to make and maintain
passing grades to stay on the team.
Thus, many players are
honor roll students. It cannot be ignored that when a
child is involve in positive alterative activities,
there is a decrease in other negative activity. AAU is
good for our young people, the community, and society.
In 2007, our 15, 16 and
17 age Panthers will compete in the state competition.
As in previous years, we are blessed in 2007 with
talented players who train hard and play well together.
Our goal is to win state championships in each of our
three age divisions. An additional goal is to capture
national crowns in the national competition.
Furthermore, 2007 will
provide another opportunity for our young men to shine
and grow. Out motto is “action and achievement in
academics and athletics with humility and a positive
attitude.” The Panther Program is about more than
basketball. It is about developing young men. We build
strong young minds and bodies to be spiritual and
prayerful. Our program is designed to develop young
people dedicated to communities, families and
self-development, based on principles of self-respect,
self-reliance and self-determination.
Our goal is to assist
each Panther to improve as a student, player and human
being. We are proud of the past achievements of the
Panthers and foreseeable future achievements.
Together, we have shared
the joy of success and the disappointment of losing. We
love each other and are better people because of these
shared experiences that parallels with life and teaches
us how to exhibit good sportsmanship in everyday life.
We invite you to join us
and enjoy Panther Power in 2007. Again, thank you for
your attention and for your support.
Sincerely,
Chokwe Lumumba, Esquire

in your endeavors, then please give to this worthy
cause. Never forget to always reach back and help
someone else climb the ladder of success. This is your
opportunity to help our youth. Will you give? Will you
help make a difference? Will you partner with us to
make our young people highly productive members of
society? I appeal to you on behalf of the many young
people in our communities with bleak outlooks on
tomorrow. Hopefully, you feel as I do that we can make
